I used to draw a lot. Like hours a day. For all the hours I spend with a pencil doodling I should be a better artist than I am now. Infact I was a better artist than I am now. I’m out of practice. It takes me a lot of warming up to get my brain working the right way so I can draw something that doesn’t look like vomit. Well at least I always know I can draw vomit I guess.

Mostly I would draw my little heroes a robots and things like that that boys like to think about. Then I got into basketball more and more and tried to do a little of that. I even did a pretty good drawing of Karl Malone that I have autographed, so that’s pretty cool. I did a lot of guys with big muscles and let me tell you I could bust out a muscled arm with my eyes closed.

I always took art through school and went to college and went into graphic design. I had to take art classes for my degree, but one thing happened that is a little sad in my mind. I left one school that had great art instructors, but didn’t provide classes at a time when I was able to take them and went to a school where the instructors for the most part (there were a couple of exceptions) had no business instructing anybody on how to be a professional designer and work in a field where some sort of creativity is required.

The result is that I got a lot less art instruction and practice, and even though I had a decent foundation and was far beyond most of those I attended school with (because of my instruction at the previous school) I still know I missed out on some things.

I don’t really regret the path I took. I’m in a good place professionally and I’m a good designer, because that’s what I

 really wanted to be and still really want to be. I also never stop working to improve on being a better designer, which to me means learning a lot of things I never thought a designer would need to know  (php, javascript, etc), and probably only a small percentage actually do know. But as far as producing actual artwork goes, well I’m pretty poor in that regard right now. So maybe to go along with the posts daily I am going to do something special, add a sketch of the day. This may get ugly, but it is something I will find fun.

I’m quite certian that with the randomness of the daily posts that the sketches will have nothing to do with the posts, but who knows I could get luck.

So this is my new goal. To see how long I can go while posting a new update everyday. I just want to see if I have that many thoughts in my head.

I’m not sure, I mean I haven’t put anything up on Twitter for a while, but mostly that is for the crazy things the kiddles do and I have a whole site dedicated to them and the things they do (MyFamilyHarris.com). This is a test of my own personal thoughts, I know the kiddles could fill a book with their crazy thoughts.
